This topic resonates with me. I can’t seem to get away from the possibilities of their stories. People from Vietnam often pay big money to get into Germany, only to find that it’s not what they had hoped for. There are no jobs for them and they are forced to find jobs in the black market. They are the largest Asian population in Germany and the second largest immigrant population.

I imagine the film opening in a hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant. We hear the sounds of people chatting in Vietnamese. As the camera pushes into the dining area, we begin to hear the sounds of German mixed in. We begin to realize that we aren’t in Vietnam or the US, but rather Germany.

This doesn’t have much to do with Berlin, but it is something encouraging that will hopefully spur me on as we try to tell stories that make a difference in people’s lives.  This is a link to a blog by someone who had seen Jitensha on New Year’s Day at the Heartland Mini Film Festival and was inspired to make a change.

This short was shot in Berlin through the Berlinale Talent Campus.  I loved the director’s previous short “A Thousand Words.”

Sikumi.  Interesting short.  Sundance winner.  15 minutes.  A place in time.  Unique people group.

Text 31 Dec tumblr?

Thanks to Daniel McNutt, I’m going to give tumblr. a try as a way to record my thoughts as I try to stay creative and make another film.

In a matter of five short months, I will be traveling to Berlin with my wife Leilani and a team of 14 Biola students to shoot a short film (which we know nothing about yet, thus tumblr.).  This is a follow-up of sorts to Biola’s last overseas project, Jitensha (Bicycle), in which Leilani and I brought 13 students to Tokyo.  That project has seen some success, premiering internationally at the Venice Film Festival and now screening at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.

I need a place to gather my thoughts as well as include images/films/music that will inspire this film to be shot in Berlin.
